I heard a statement today that has me thinking about the power of lunch. It went something like this “Always make sure that you pack a lunch that you really enjoy because if your morning goes completely sideways and everything is going wrong – a good lunch can turn the day around.”

Wow – what a simple idea.

How powerful might lunch be?

I had a conversation with a very well known leadership consultant the day following a keynote address he had given. I asked him about the previous day and how he thought it went. Leaders are reflective. He was quick to respond with an assessment of his performance which he deemed as poor. One of the key contributing factors to his poor performance was low energy levels which he attributed to the fact that he had skipped lunch.

What if the next time you received an email from an employee or colleague that was looking for feedback on their idea and rather than responding with an email you invited them to lunch to discuss? How much more powerful would it be for the relationship to show that you care about them, that they are valued by investing your time and energy into a lunch instead of a 30-second response to the inquiry.

Lunch can turn a bad day around, provide the required energy for peak performance and build relationships.
